President Roosevelt’s New Deal program, the Works Progress Administration (WPA), was enacted in 1935. In addition to its massive infrastructure projects, it supported tens of thousands of artists, brought more art to more Americans than ever before or since, and led to the creation of the National Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. This series of posters to promote the City of Chicago are a grand example of and tribute to this ambitious program.
