In 1959, a full service Italian restaurant named Andre’s of Beverly Hills opened, claiming to serve “Continental Cuisine” — because when Andre’s opened its doors, not many Americans were familiar with Italian cuisine. Andre’s restaurant was a huge critical and popular hit, even attracting Robert Kennedy, who famously showed up to dine there in a six-limo motorcade with a slew of secret servicemen.
