In 1940, a new supper club named Ciro’s opened on Sunset Strip, and quickly became the must-see and must-be-seen place in Hollywood. The interior was a riot of color and texture, with red silk sofas and walls draped in heavy pastel green silk. A large bandstand dominated the main room, phone jacks were installed at every table, and a spotlight at the entrance highlighted every star or wannabe who walked through their doors.
