Opened in 1976 in Costa Mesa, the Cuckoo’s Nest was the biggest punk club in Orange County, drawing hundreds of young fans to see bands like The Adolescents and Social Distortion. However, violent clashes between club patrons and cowboys who frequented the country-western club next door often broke out, exacerbating the bad reputation of punk rockers and hastening the club’s demise.
