Opened in 1975 in an industrial park in San Luis Obispo, The Graduate was a sprawling space with a huge dance floor, two bars, dozens of TVs lining the walls and plenty of tables. For 45 years it was a dance club, a sports bar and a restaurant, serving up large portions of solid bar food in a cavernous atmosphere. Sure, it had that stale beer smell and slightly divey look, but that was its nostalgic charm.
