A sprawling dive, The Satellite was the leading LA shrine to all things indie for over 25 years. Parking there was a combat sport, but the venue had good sound and an upstairs lounge with a less-crowded bar and a photo booth (that actually worked on good nights). The Satellite hosted major acts like Lady Gaga, Beck, the White Stripes and the Foo Fighters, and the Monday night program, which featured free monthly residencies for buzzy local bands on their way up, was always worth a look.
