In the summer of 1978, thousands converged upon a rickety Navy Pier for the first annual ChicagoFest. The 10-day festival lineup included Journey, Muddy Waters, and dozens of others. In addition to its 30,000 seat Main Stage, ChicagoFest featured 16 other stage areas that seated 2,500 to 5,000, that presented nationally known recording artists. ChicagoFest only ran five more years, but left an enduring legacy of Chicago summer festivals in its wake.
