The 20 Grand was easily one of the most famous nightclubs during its glory days in the 1950s. Lines of people would wrap around the club to see Motown acts like the Temptations, the Spinners, Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, Stevie Wonder and even a 20-year-old Aretha Franklin. This venue proved instrumental in promoting the Motown sound, which would later act as a catalyst to the R&B and hip-hop movements.
