Dubbed the CBGB of Detroit, Bookie’s Club 870, was Detroit’s top concert club, presenting The Police, Iggy Pop, Ultravox, The Dead Boys, The Damned, The Cramps, The Romantics and many other greats during its brief existence. Bookie’s reputation was so large that artists like David Bowie, Elvis Costello, and Blondie came just to see Bookie’s after playing shows at larger Detroit venues.
