Max’s Kansas City was a nightclub in NYC that had little to do with Max and even less to do with Kansas City. A rival to neighboring CBGB, it was where punk mingled freely with glitter-rock and glam; a magnet for artists, actors, musicians, poets, and fame moochers. A trip to Max’s Kansas City meant being served by Debbie Harry (your waitress for the night ) and sharing the visible air with the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, William S. Burroughs, Andy Warhol and Lou Reed, among many others.
