Opened in 1904 in Milwaukee, Karl Ratzsch was an upscale old-world restaurant serving up classic German fare such as sauerbraten, schnitzels, spätzle and kraut, and of course a wide variety of German beers. No “oom-pah-pah” here — the décor was classical Bavarian, complete with dark, rich woodwork, traditional stained glass windows and ornate murals adorning the walls.
