In September 1967, AMC had no performance parts, no performance engineering group, no racing group, no engine-development program, and absolutely no plan. But AMC was determined to enter into Trans-Am road racing and NASCAR to promote their new AMX and Javelin ponycars. And so was born the Javelin Racing Team…and by 1971, they won the Trans Am Championship.
