The first Sportmart opened in 1971 in Niles, IL. The company grew to 60 stores in nine states and Puerto Rico. At its peak, it was the go-to sports store for much of the midwest. In 2003, Sportmart merged with Sports Authority and by 2005, Sportmart was no more.
