Opened in 1979, the Tape World chain, with its arcade-like logo, sold all if its music solely on cassette tapes, and were popular with the headbangers, new wavers and Madonna wannabes who trolled shopping malls in the 80s. But consider the name itself: Tape World didn’t have the foresight to include CDs or the hindsight to include records. Like cassette tapes themselves, it was doomed from the beginning.
