Opened in 1958 in Peoria, Sandy’s was a drive-in hamburger joint that grew to 240 locations across the Midwest. Proclaiming, “Come as you are…hungry,” Sandy’s served up greasy grub, like the Big Scot, which put the Big Mac to shame, a cheesy three-patty Hi-Lo burger, super-thin fries, and the Sandee burger, their answer to the Whopper.
